THE NEED FOR PLANNED GIVING
Your support through giving can secure our ability to serve our community in Chalfont St Peter and for the Church of England to minister across the country. As we rejoice in the great things God is doing amongst us, we are also aware that for this vital work to continue we need to club together and resource our work visiting those in need, supporting schools, families, and new believers. Increased giving will enable new services for young and old both contemporary and choral and enable us to build a youth ministry, 18-30s groups, choral evensong and community meals.
Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 1 Chronicles 29:14
DECIDING HOW MUCH TO GIVE
How much you give is a matter for your personal and prayerful reflection. Our giving should reflect not only our willingness to give, but also our ability to give; since individual circumstances differ significantly, so will our individual gifts. A starting point when reflecting on our Christian giving is that when giving to others we should give in proportion to what we ourselves receive from God i.e. in proportion to our income. This practice of tithing has Biblical origins and the “tithe” literally means a tenth.
For some time, the Church of England General Synod has encouraged us as Christians to review our giving annually and has recommended to give 5% of post-tax income to the church and a similar amount to other kingdom building charities. You might choose to calculate your proportionate giving on pre-tax, post-tax or disposable income.
The Bible says: Each person should give what they have decided in their heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
For example, a monthly gift of £37.50 helps to sustain what we currently do or £75-£250 monthly will enable growth to support our vital and exciting work!
Please pray for the future of our Church, rejoicing in the growth and the potential that exists. Recall good fortune you may have enjoyed in the past year – a windfall, a bonus, a rise, something left in the bank? – and consider a special gift to the church. Consider the figures above to make, or review and renew your regular giving pledge. Join us as we encounter God, encourage others and engage our world!
